    This was way too reasonable and fair. :) Thanks, I liked this a lot. The way I see it, both BJJ and GJJ can be helpful in a fight and more importantly, gives us confidence. But at the end of the day, most of us won't be using this is in a fight and the friends we make and community we build in our JJ school is way more important. If we end up in a street fight, JJ will just be one tool in a our toolbox, the other tools being our crew, maybe our gun or knife, and maybe our boxing/MT/wrestling. If we are on concrete somewhere fighting off our back, we are having a really bad day, even if we get the sweep or submission.

      Just because Gordon has an instructional about this escape it doesn't mean that he created it or Jay Rod has learned from it. Just saying...

      @@ivancorreia602 There's absolutely no shame in learning from a white belt either. The point is that we can't definitively say that Jay Rod learned it from Gordon; we can only speculate. After all, Gordon probably learned it from someone else as well.

    When he locked his hands, what was he hoping to accomplish? It seemed like he just let a perfect position get dismantled. What was he going for when he locked one arm down. Not a blood choke, not an air choke, not an arm bar, not a chicken wing.

    • @MMALeech
      @MMALeech 14 днів тому

      I think he was looking for added control of Jay Rod's top shoulder, trying to glue his chest to his back, since Jay Rod was facing down also killing the angle of a possible choke

    Can you explain what you mean by "figuring four"? Like was he trying to put his legs in a figure 4 shape? Or is that completely the wrong interpretation?

    • @Joyceages
      @Joyceages 29 днів тому

      @yapperinos A figure four for example would be if you to take your right leg, rotate it so your foot is facing your left leg and then tuck it under your left leg’s knee. Mikey did not tuck it under and instead drove his right knee to his left foot in order to create the pressure.

    • @MMALeech
      @MMALeech 29 днів тому

      Correct, meant figure 4 shape

    • @Yapperinos
      @Yapperinos 29 днів тому

      @@Joyceages Thank you. Now because Leech said "instead of figuring four" that implies the figure four would be a common move here? Do you know what submission that would generally lead to? Hard for me to see it still being a calf slicer...

    The problem with MMA is that the techniques are for fighting someone in the same weight class. I have only been in a few fights and they were always guys who were much bigger than me and formidable. I would not feel comfortable using MMA technique with a 6 ft 4 athletic guy weighing 220 who has a violent or reckless attitude. Safer to apply Gracie Combatives class in this situation with one exception. Instead of trying to finish the fight the emphasis is on disengaging if possible only finish the fight if you can't disengage for some reason. BJJ and wrestling have kept me safe with dangerous hombres. Also stay fit and think tactically. Avoiding danger is the best way to stay safe. Most people do not have time to be elite grapplers but they do have time to practice 36 techniques. For this reason, I rate Gracie Combatives pretty high for the average person.
